Security will continue to represent one of the most fundamentally important functions taking place in and around the airport. The on-going threat of terror attacks have boosted the need for more effective security measures combined with greater consideration for passenger facilitation and the terminal experience. This program gives an insight into the future of passenger and personal profiling, surveillance technology, emergency response and securing the airport terminal and airfield in order to identify and respond to the threats posed to airports.

Chairperson:

Security will continue to represent one of the most fundamentally important functions taking place in and around the airport. The on-going threat of terror attacks has boosted the need for more effective security measures, combined with greater consideration for passenger facilitation and the terminal experience. This programme gives an insight into the future of passenger and personnel profiling, surveillance technology, emergency response and securing the airport terminal and airfield in order to identify and respond to the threats posed to airports.

Panel Session One: Securing the airport 2020

How the passenger process in a hub airport terminal is changed by security regulations
Frankfurt Airport is Europe's third busiest passenger airport. Based on the European Aviation Security Regulation 2320/2002, new additional security measures had to be implemented. In parallel, the two terminals of the Star Alliance home base have been continuously expanded and refurbished, whilst the number of users has constantly increased. Philipp Kriegbaum outlines the role of security as an integrated part of the terminal process, providing an insight into the impact made by the liquids regime and explaining why airports believe that limiting carry-on baggage size does not enhance airport security.
Philipp Kriegbaum, Senior Security Co-ordinator,
Fraport AG

Security and facilitation
Are they contradictory issues or can one achieve both higher security and a 'good experience' for the passenger?
Mireille Dörr,
National Expert, European Commission

Transforming Dublin Airport – The Security Perspective
The varied challenges faced in the provision of effective security in a fast growing international airport in the midst of such an extensive development programme and the solutions considered for dealing with them.
Rowan Fogarty,
Head of Safety, Security and Operational Compliance, Dublin Airport

Panel Session Two: Improving Passenger facilitation and the terminal experience

The benefits of passenger profiling and behaviour pattern recognition?
Passenger profiling measures have been considered to improve aviation security. Soon, passengers will be scrutinised according to their behaviour. Just how effective are these technologies and are there any loopholes in its performance?
Matthew Finn,
Director, Government & Security Solutions, SITA*

Security through more effective patrols
Prevent through presence, or respond quickly to incidents? Can we solve the tradeoff between the immersion of foot patrols and the speed of response vehicles?
Morgan Smith,
International Marketing Manager, Segway Inc

The future of screening: common sense in technology selection
Philip Baum will look at how multiple technologies can be introduced into the screening process, the selection of which to use being made by a reasoned analysis of the threat posed. The goal, well before 2020, being to speed up the flow of passengers the checkpoint whilst enhancing security at the same time.
Philip Baum,
Managing Director, Green Light & Editor, Aviation Security International

Improving Security, Service and Efficiency through Technology Innovations
The aviation industry is striving to manage increased travel volumes and to enhance security while improving passenger experience. Accenture will present a solution which synchronizes the competing stakeholder requirements to streamline air travel processes and which leverages technology for process automation.
Hubertus Windeler,
Partner, Travel & Transportation services, Aviation practice, Accenture

Testing the liquid threat
Current bomb detection methods have been thrown off-course by liquid threats. Just how efficient will technological methods become and will they ever square up to the security needs of the future?
Department for Transport*

Panel Session Three: Securing Airside Operations

Secure Advanced Aircargo Transfer (SAATS) system into critical parts
SAATS Developed by Fraport enables mechanized transfer of ULDs from landside to the critical part of the airport and back. Combining proven moving devices / taxiways at the airport with security components such as X-ray systems, emission recording stations, thermal cameras, contour measuring systems and automated indentification processes such as barcode or RFID.
Bernhard Lessmann,
Manager Cargo City Management, Fraport

Improvement of airport quality
Lisbon Airport and Lyngsoe Systems will present CatellaeTM AQM, Lyngsoe Systems’ RFID based tool for measuring airport quality along with Lisbon Airport’s reasons for implementing the system. How does it work and what are the results.
José L. Rabaçal, Operational Director, Lisbon Airport
Jan Poulsen, Business Development Manager, Lyngsoe Systems

Advancing airfield perimeter and outdoor security
With the integration of advanced sensor electronic and intelligent video a new quality level of outdoor surveilling could be achieved. Command & control centere technology provides the entire security picture.
Mattias Stump,
Business Development Support for Siemens Building Technologies, Security Systems Division

Panel Session Four: Managing The Future Security Risks – Airports in 2020

Managing the future security risks - airports in 2020
What is the next area of vulnerability'? Terrorist acts over the past 20 years have evolved. How can one develop legislative requirements that will 'keep up with the terrorists'?
Mireille Dörr,
National Expert, European Commission

Air Cargo Security - The current threats and future risks
A Business Continuity journalist's perspective on current airport security issues. How London is preparing for the 2012 Olympics and the political backdrop to supply chain security
Jim Ensom,
Crisis Management Consultant, Global Continuity

Current and future trends in transatlantic security threat perceptions
Jack Clarke,
Professor of Leadership, Management and Defense Planning,George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies
