Airports of the Future PDF Print E-mail

It is now over 100 years since powered flight changed the world forever. Even men of vision like Orville and Wilbutr Wright could not have prediceted the growth so far, so what about the future? In this book we look at the plans in place today for the airports of the future. This book looks both at the overall picture and in etail at specific airports.

Can anyone accurately forecast how aviation will progress?

It is now over 100 years since powered flight changed the world forever and literally launched a new era in transportation and globalisation.

Even men of vision like Orville and Wilbur Wright surely could not have predicted the extraordinary development of aviation in the course of the 20th century. The industry has proven to consistently underestimate demand.

In this book we look at the plans in place today for airports of the future. We consider the need for ‘futureproofing’ and the flexibility essential to the sustained growth of aviation, and look at how airport operators plan to take every aspect of the industry, from security to passenger service, to even higher levels.

We seek to comprehend the evolution of the Airport City and examine how airports will change the global landscape, not just physically but in terms of how economies, industry and commerce operate. And through case studies, the book examines the masterplans of individual airports and leading-edge suppliers.

At the same time, the industry will continue to facelong-term challenges and questions. Where can the new airports that will be needed be located, and how will more infrastructure be provided in major cities that already are over-crowded? Is a further look at vertical and short takeoff/landing aircraft designs required? Will new aircraft technologies be introduced? What fuels will be used as petroleum potentially becomes scarce and more expensive?

The future is never far away. This book proves the aviation industry is actively preparing, while recognising that it also must continue to consider evolving possibilities.
