About SMAG

The ACI EUROPE small and medium size airports action group was created in June 2006 following the need to address the specific needs of the small and medium-size regular members of ACI EUROPE, in particular regional airports. SMAG provides a platform for small and medium-sized airports to exchange knowledge, share best practices and discuss issues of common interest. SMAG is also intended to allow ACI EUROPE to get an in-depth knowledge of the issues and interests specific to small and medium-sized airports so as to allow a better representation of such interest when lobbying with the EU institutions.

Conversely, SMAG also allows small and medium sized airports to get information about EU affairs and access the EU institutions. SMAG has already established regular co-operation with the EU Committee of the Regions and the European Commission. SMAG is open to all regular members managing airports with less than 5 million traffic units (this threshold is indicative); this group is not subject to ACI EUROPE committee rules. Currently, SMAG has 150 members, including six national airport associations.

About ACI EUROPE - The hosts

The voice of Europe's airports ACI EUROPE, the European region of Airports Council International (ACI), is based in Brussels, Belgium and represents the interests of over
400 airports in 46 countries. Our members account for over 90% of commercial air traffic in Europe. In 2007, ACI EUROPE member airports welcomed 1.47 billion passengers and handled 17.4 million metric tonnes of cargo and 20.8 million aircraft movements. The Brussels-based team comprises 14 permanent staff and more than 300 airport experts, under the leadership of Director General Olivier Jankovec.

ACI EUROPE promotes the exchange of industry know-how through our internal committee structure and extensive schedule of conferences and exhibitions. By actively seeking the views of airport members, we generate comprehensive industry policies that serve as a reference to the entire aviation industry.

We work on a day-to-day basis with the institutions of the European Union, the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) and the European Agency for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL).

About Dubrovnik International Airport - The host airport

TDubrovnik International Airport is the gateway to the city of Dubrovnik, a city dubbed the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’ and a recognised UNESCO world heritage site.
Dubrovnik Airport has experienced impressive growth in both cargo and passenger traffic in recent years and now serves more than one million passengers per year. In its summer 2008 timetable Dubrovnik Airport boasted scheduled flights to 43 destinations.

In 2005 Dubrovnik launched one of the biggest expansion projects in the airport’s history, designed to expand its capacity to over two million passengers per annum. Due to be completed in 2011, the reconstruction project has been carefully planned to prevent any interruption to the quality of service, comfort and safety of passengers.
